The Top Questions for the Plantronics Voyager Edge:
Do I need to use a smartphone or smartwatch to call someone?
From experience on iOS, Android and Windows phone we find pressing the call button on the headset once or double pressing triggers Siri, Google Now or Cortana. From here you can say “Call TC” and it will. Plantronics say there is an in-built system but we’ve yet to witness it, this might be because smartphones override it with their own features.
Can I use this Plantronics headset on any device, including computers?
If the device has Bluetooth then the answer is yes. This means any smartphone, smartwatch or laptop. If you want to connect to a desktop you’ll need a Bluetooth 4.0CSR dongle. This is available in the Voyager Edge UC model but you may be better off buying this and a separate dongle.
How much background noise does the Edge pick up?
It depends on what that background noise is and where you are. If you were in an environment with general talking but without random shouts and screams then the noise cancellation algorithm can cancel out most of those sounds. If you’re in a sports arena with random changes in volume then much of the background noise would get through to the caller. From our time with the Edge and Edge UC we found the noise cancellation one of its better features – but no Bluetooth headset is perfect sadly.
What are the differences between the Edge and Edge UC?
The Edge UC is $80 more expensive. For that extra cost you get a PC dongle (one of these can be picked up for $10 or less) so that the headset can connect to a desktop system and a host of other upgrades that we didn’t feel improve the product. For example it’s claim of better sound didn’t seem like an improvement on the Edge.
Where can I find the official video for the Edge or Edge UC?
Is this Plantronics Bluetooth Headset on sale at Amazon.com?
Right now you can buy the Voyager Edge and charging case on Amazon.
Does this really announce a caller by name? Or is it just their number?
It’s definitely by name.
Can I use a Micro-USB Charger with the headset?
Yes you can use Micro-USB chargers with the Bluetooth device. You could even use the Micro-USB Charger with the charging case that comes with the Voyager Edge.
How long does it last with a full charge?
With a full 90 minute charge the headset is marketed to last 16 hours of talk time but in our experience it will need a full charge for every working day of use. We consider a working day 9-10 hours.
I use my smartphone to stream music to my car stereo, what happens if I get a call?
The music will stop and the call alert will go to the Bluetooth headset. You can take off the headset or disable it from your smartphones Bluetooth to stop this. To switch the headset to either turn on or off automatically when you put it in your ear hold down the power switch and volume switch at same time for 10 seconds.
Do I need to carry my smartphone with me to get calls?
It depends on where you are and what you’re doing. Your smartphone will need to be within 33 feet of the Plantronics Voyager Edge headset. This is the absolute maximum and Bluetooth signal quality could be much weaker before that point. We’d suggest keeping your smartphone near if you’re planning on using this headset so it’s ideal if you’re cooking, cleaning or moving around an office.
I have glasses, will this headset be comfortable?
I wear glasses too and can categorically state the Edge is comfortable. I personally don’t use the clip that goes over the ear, I just use the ear piece that fitted into my ear comfortably. You get a number of different size options in the box to try out so you should be able to find something that fits very well. While using this headset I had no discomfort, no unsightly ear bulges or annoyances with it falling out every five minutes.
I want to use a different language other than English, can I?
Of course you can. To change language, once your headset is paired and connected to a smartphone press and hold the volume + and- buttons. Listen for the word “Welcome” and follow the voice-guided prompts to change to one of the other supported languages.
Where can I find an unboxing video for the Voyager Edge?
What do you get in the box exactly?
We purchased this Plantronics Voyager Edge from Amazon and it came with the Bluetooth Headset, charging case, rechargeable battery, car charger and micro-USB cable. There was also three silicone ear tips in small, medium and large sizes. It also included the on-ear loop which has to be removed for charging.
A lot of negative reviews on Amazon talk about their version being English not American, what’s the difference?
Plantronics used an English woman to deliver system messages and notifications on this device. If you dislike the English accent it may be a problem because of called and battery notifications. Outside of this the headset is identical across all countries.
Is there an app to download for the headset?
Yes you can download the Plantronics hub app.
Would I get an alert regarding new incoming messages on my smartphone?
By default it only beeps when you receive a text yet you can make it so your message alert can be heard. This setting is different from smartphone to smartphone but always comes under the Bluetooth settings.
